Eggs and Yogurt

So a friend posted about making yogurt at home using the crockpot. I thought "I can do that." It's now been a month or so and I finally followed the recipe found here. Quite tasty. Not as tangy as I thought it would be and the recipe makes a HUGE batch. I guess we'll find some new uses for yogurt or maybe the kids will start eating it more. Might go well with the Spinerry smoothies another friend makes.

The other fun food thing this week is eggs. Farm fresh brown eggs. We are going to get 18 a week barring any laying problems. I was just thinking I should probably wash the eggs before I use them....Anyway they are little more money than I usually spend but they are as organic as they come and way cheaper than store-bought organic. We are making omelets tonight. I'm excited to try them.

SRI would like to expand the garden this year. It would triple what we had last summer. I'm not sure we can take care of that much garden but we need to start somewhere. Time to put all of our collective book reading together and make a garden grow. We are finally out of drought here in AL and that should help get things off to a better start. We can plant as early as February here which means we should get ordering the seeds. Other than space we face the problem of too many choices. I love looking at the seed catalogs and all the variety and most of all color. Top picks to try this year: beets, garlic, tomatoes, corn, sunflowers, peppers and herbs. SRI may have some more ideas of what he wants to plan. We'll document as we go.
